Christmas markets in Trentino

Twinkling lights, the scent of cinnamon and mulled wine in the streets. In the run-up to Christmas, Trentino and its villages are already decked out for the holidays.

If you are still missing a few presents to put under the tree, you will find plenty of ideas in the Christmas markets around here.

things to know

No. Despite what you might read on a few unofficial sites, there are no Christmas markets up here on the plateau.

To stroll among the classic wooden huts, you just need to head a little further out: the closest ones are in Mezzolombardo, Faedo, Rango, and Trento.

No markets doesn't mean no Christmas in our villages.

In December, you can take a ride on the little town train, grab a warm cup of mulled wine in Andalo's square after a day on the snow, or lace up your skates at our ice rinks.

Over the holidays, expect live music and outdoor shows for the kids.

On December 5th, a clatter of metal fills the streets of Fai and nearby Rotaliana.

Children pull bandoni behind them—strings of old tin cans scraped and slammed onto the pavement to call Saint Nicholas.

By nightfall, he arrives on a donkey loaded with mandarins, peanuts in their shells, and candy.

A authentic village tradition best enjoyed in the square, with a warm cup in hand.
